The Sianes at The Tranzac

November 13, 2023 @ 9:30 pm - 11:30 pm

Come one and all to a wonderful song-packed evening on Monday, November 13th as The Sianes, everyone's favourite Toronto roots music duo (we are your favourite right? PLEASE say yes). Start time is 9:30 and you can pay what you can in the tip jar, though if you would like to pay exorbitant amounts, we're certainly not going to refuse. Because that would just be impolite and certainly not cricket.

Forged from a mutual love of various roots music styles with the odd awesome pop standard thrown in, The Sianes (pronounced SHY-ANNS) are Sean Peever and Diane Simone, two veterans of Toronto's roots music scene who feel that there's no reason why Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton, Nina Simone (no relation to Diane, though she wishes she was), Loretta Lynn, Janis Joplin, Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris, Elmore James, Wayne Rostad, and Blossom Dearie, among many others, can't coexist in the same setlist along with their own beautiful folk-roots originals.

After singing blues and jazz standards for a number of years in the Toronto area, Diane Simone went on hiatus for a while and found that she missed playing music something fierce and wanted to expand her repertoire style-wise - while also finding an audience for her achingly lovely folk-roots originals. After meeting Sean Peever, a veteran folk-roots singer-songwriter-guitarist, at a jam session in Toronto's St. James Park, they clicked together like peanut butter and jelly and are recording their debut album for release in the new year while establishing themselves on the Toronto live scene.
