Tavern of Song #12 “Losing My Religion”

March 30 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Tavern of Song began in the summer of 2022 as a shared endeavour between the father/daughter programming duo, Jim and Meredith Shedden. Their goal was to host a regular concert series at their neighbourhood pub that promoted up-and-coming musicians, highlighted established members of the Toronto live music scene, and fostered community between audiences and performers, through an informal and welcoming atmosphere. Since its inception, Tavern has taken place at The Dominion Pub and Kitchen, Boxcar Social Harbourfront, and now finds a home at the Tranzac Club! For each event, Jim and Meredith decide upon a theme, around which the lineup of performers shape their 3-4 song sets, whether it be part of their pre-song patter or the subject matter of the song itself. This month, their theme is "Losing My Religion", lovingly named after the REM song of 1991. The events run on a "Pay What You Can" model through cash or e-transfer donations. Performers include Lori Cullen, whose voice has been called “one of the purest of a generation”; Meagan Aversa, a singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from Fiona Apple, Elliott Smith and the Cure; Graham Nicholas, of whom it has been said "John Prine would be proud;' and Henry Lee, a musician, social anthropologist, and urban activist.
