Long Winter Cozy Chats

January 12 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Friday, January 12: Long Winter Cozy Chats. 6 pm - 10 pm, $20/PWYC. In the Main Hall, Living Room and Zine Library. Tickets available here or at the door.

Long Winter’s twelfth turn around the sun is no business as usual. Ontario reduced its total contributions to grant funding from $50M in 2022 back down to $19.5M this year, so when organizers reconvened to plan out its next season, they had some soul searching to do; organizations across the province grapple with reduced core funding and glaring precarity.

Placing those conditions in its crosshairs, for the launch of the series’ twelfth season, Long Winter returns to the Annex’s Tranzac Club on January 12, where, in addition to music and art installations, audiences can expect a series of adventurous discussions and interactions touching on topics of cultural production, community, and sustainability, with an eye toward new models and possible futures.

Co-presented in partnership with local event programmers the Music Gallery and Venus Fest as well as New Feeling, a cooperative of music journalists and community members operating across the occupied Indigenous lands that constitute Canada, Long Winter aims for the event to approach the subject of social spending under and out of neoliberal capitalism from multiple angles.

Plush textile environs and live-generated wall projections provided by Shihab Mian will match the psychedelic vibe, helping to build the do-it-together slumber party anti-conference of Long Winter’s dreams.
