Call for Directors
The TRANZAC’s board of directors has up to three vacancies, and we’re looking for people who want to volunteer their time to help us out. Read on to learn more.
Our mission
Together with our community, the TRANZAC supports, presents, and promotes creative, cultural and community activity in Toronto. As a non-profit venue, the TRANZAC is many things: vibrant, and member-run; it is also a multidisciplinary, multigenerational, and multigenre music, arts, and community hub that creates space for a diverse range of artistic expression.
Who we are
As a venue: The TRANZAC programs and books regular live performances and embraces a wide range of musicians and performing artists.
As an organization: We’re a non-profit corporation with an open, paid membership who annually elect a board of directors. The TRANZAC has a small, dedicated paid staff who are responsible for residency programming, venue rental, and the daily business operations of the organization.
We sustain ourselves through a mixture of membership fees, revenue from bar sales, venue rentals, private donations, and grants.
Who we’re looking for:
We are seeking applicants with a background or strong interest in arts and culture, and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Governance of not-for-profit or charitable organizations
- Equity, diversity and inclusion
- Fundraising and strategic partnerships
- Arts programming and presentation
- Marketing, communications, and public relations
- Legal, financial administration, or human resources
About the board and its work
The Tranzac board is comprised of 12 directors, who serve staggered, two-year terms, up to a maximum of three terms.
Board members are asked to commit to at least a minimum of two years on a volunteer basis. The board term will begin in May 2024 and extend to the AGM in the fall of 2025.
As a member of a working board that is moving towards a more focused governance and oversight role, directors will dedicate time to board meetings, committees, strategic planning and assigned tasks. They are expected to attend monthly board meetings, including our annual general meeting. Board members often play an active role in supporting the community of the Tranzac
