Wednesday, December 5: Carols From The Barrel: The Barrel Boys with Danielle Knibbe. Door: 7:30 p.m. Music: 8 p.m. $12 Advance; $15 Door.
The Barrel Boys return to The Tranzac for their fifth annual Christmas performance! They'll be playing some old favourites from their Christmas EP, "Carols from the Barrel" as well as a couple new arrangements and some fresh original tunes. This year's special guest is Danielle Knibbe, an incredible songwriter and performer with a voice you'll be thinking about all season long!
Blending folk, roots, and country sensibilities, Danielle Knibbe's songs win, and then all too often, break your heart. There's an intimacy and familiarity to her music; her stories may not be about you, but you'll think they are.
Tackling topics like mental illness, loss, heartbreak, estrangement, and countless others, Danielle Knibbe has developed a following by being as genuine and open in her songwriting as she is onstage. Her songs invite the listener into what feels like an intimate conversation between friends. Her knack for penning insightful yet straightforward lyrics has already gained her recognition, earning her a spot at the Banff Centre for the Arts inaugural Singer-Songwriter Residency. Although she was one of the youngest songwriters in the program, she was given the nickname “The Lyric Doctor” due to her natural instinct for getting
to the heart of a song.
The Barrel Boys:
Featuring powerful vocal harmonies and virtuosic instrumental prowess, The Barrel Boys are a staple of Toronto's vibrant acoustic music scene. Drawing from the deep wells of bluegrass, old-time, classic country, and americana, The Boys have crafted their own unique sound that holds tradition and innovation in balance. Their lively performances and down-to-earth songwriting have captured the hearts of audiences across Canada.
"There's a certain "band next door" feel to The Barrel Boys. They may be accomplished musicians with tight harmonies and great arrangements, but their music is also brimming with the kind of personality that makes you want to buy them a beer and hear their life stories." - Kristin Cavoukian, Exclaim!
